Early access terms
Last updated 2026-09-03
These terms apply if you take part in Waybook early access. They add to the terms of use rather than replacing them.
The point of this page is that you should be able to decide whether to put your real household finances into software that is not finished. So it says what could go wrong, first.
Waybook is not finished
Early access means the software is incomplete and under active development. Expect the following, because they are likely rather than theoretical:
- Bugs, including in the arithmetic. A figure Waybook shows you may be wrong. Do not make a financial decision on a Waybook number without checking it.
- Features that change or disappear. Screens will be redesigned and things you have come to rely on may be removed.
- Interruptions. There is no uptime commitment and no support commitment during early access.
- Data loss. See the next section, which is the one that matters most.
What may happen to your data
Keep your own copy of anything you cannot lose. Waybook can export everything as CSV or PDF at any time, and during early access you should do that periodically.
- Data you enter during early access may be lost, corrupted or reset, including by our mistake.
- Storage formats may change. We intend to migrate data forward and we test migrations, but we cannot promise every early-access workbook will carry into the released product.
- We may need to reset accounts to change something fundamental. If we do, we will tell you beforehand and give you a chance to export.
The encryption cuts both ways. Your hosted workbook is encrypted on your device and we hold no key. That means we cannot read your data — and it also means we cannot restore it for you if you lose every way in. Print your recovery codes and enrol a second device.
Being invited
Joining the early-access list does not guarantee an invitation. We will invite people in groups so that we can respond to what we learn, and we may prioritise particular situations in order to test particular parts of the product.
Taking part is free, and there is no obligation to buy anything later. If Waybook is eventually paid, we will say so clearly before asking anyone for money.
What we ask of you
- Tell us when something is wrong. That is the entire point. A quiet tester is not helping.
- Do not rely on Waybook alone for a decision that matters, during early access.
- Keep your own exports.
- Report security issues privately — see the security page — rather than publicly.
You are not required to keep Waybook confidential. We are building it in the open, and you may talk about it, write about it and show it to people. We would appreciate you making clear that what you are showing is unfinished.
Feedback
We may use anything you tell us to improve Waybook, without payment or obligation. Please do not include real account numbers, balances or other sensitive details in a bug report — a description and a screenshot with the figures blanked is more useful and safer for you.
Leaving, and being removed
You can stop at any time, for any reason, without telling us why. Export your data, then ask us to delete your account at privacy choices. Unsubscribing from the emails is a single click in any of them.
We may end your participation if you break these terms or the terms of use, or if we stop the programme. We will give you notice and a chance to export unless there is a reason we cannot.
When Waybook is released
We intend early-access workbooks to carry into the released product, and we will tell you well beforehand what will happen to yours. If migration is not possible, we will say so and give you time to export.
Early access does not entitle you to the released product free of charge, though we will treat the people who helped build it accordingly.
Disclaimers
Pre-release software is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. The disclaimers and limitations in the terms of use apply in full, and apply with particular force to early access.
