Terms of use
Last updated 2026-09-03
These terms cover the Waybook website and the Waybook application. They are written to be read rather than skimmed past, and the parts that actually matter — that Waybook is a tool and not advice, that it is unfinished, and that its figures are only as good as what you put in — are near the top rather than buried.
[LEGAL REVIEW REQUIRED] This document is a draft prepared from the product as built. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and several terms remain to be decided. It should not be published in this state.
Agreement
By using waybook.io or the Waybook application, you agree to these terms with Alpha Peak Technologies LLC, a Utah limited liability company ("Waybook", "we", "us"). Waybook is a trade name of Alpha Peak Technologies LLC. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use Waybook.
Our privacy policy, financial disclosures and, while Waybook is pre-release, the early-access terms form part of this agreement.
What Waybook is, and is not
Waybook is software for recording and planning a household’s finances. You enter or import information; Waybook organises it and calculates projections from assumptions you control.
Waybook is not:
- a bank, credit union or any other depository institution;
- a broker, dealer or investment adviser;
- a tax preparer, accountant or law firm;
- a money transmitter — Waybook never holds, moves or has access to your money;
- a credit reporting agency, and nothing in Waybook affects your credit.
Waybook does not connect to your financial accounts. It cannot move money, place a trade, pay a bill or change anything at your bank, because it has no ability to reach one. The financial disclosures page explains what the calculations are and are not.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract. Waybook is currently offered in the United States only. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply where you are.
Your account, your household and your data
Waybook signs you in through Google’s identity service. You are responsible for keeping control of the email account you sign in with, and for the security of that account — anyone who can read your email can reset your way into Waybook.
Read this part carefully. On the hosted service, your workbook is encrypted on your device before it reaches us, with a passphrase we never receive. We hold no key. Your sign-in password can be reset; your workbook passphrase cannot. If you lose it and your recovery key, we cannot recover your data — nobody can. Keep your recovery key somewhere safe.
You keep ownership of everything you put into Waybook. You give us only the permission we need to store and process it in order to run the service for you. We do not use it to train models, and we do not sell it.
Accuracy of information
Waybook’s output depends entirely on what goes in. Figures you enter, files you import, the assumptions you choose and the reference data built into the product all affect the result. Reference figures — tax brackets, contribution limits, benefit formulas — are recorded with their published source and the date they were last reviewed, and they may be out of date or wrong.
Check anything important before acting on it. Waybook is a tool for thinking with, not a source of truth about your taxes, your benefits or your future.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Waybook for anything unlawful, or to store information you have no right to hold;
- attempt to gain access to another person’s workbook, or to any part of our systems you have not been given access to;
- probe, scan or test our infrastructure other than as described on the security page;
- interfere with the service, including by overwhelming it with automated requests;
- resell, sublicense or provide Waybook as a service to others;
- submit another person’s email address to the early-access list.
Pre-release software
Waybook is in development. During early access it may contain defects, change substantially or without notice, and be unavailable. Features may be removed. Data created during early access may not carry forward. The early-access terms set this out in full, and they apply to you if you are taking part.
Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of Waybook. We may impose limits on use. There is no uptime commitment during early access.
If we discontinue the hosted service, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to export your data first.
Intellectual property
Waybook, its name, its logo and the software are ours or our licensors’. These terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Waybook for your own household’s finances. Nothing else is granted.
Feedback
If you send us feedback, we may use it to improve Waybook without obligation or payment to you. Please do not send us anything you consider confidential, and please do not include real account numbers or balances in a bug report.
Third-party services
Waybook relies on a small number of outside providers to host the service and to send email; they are listed in the privacy policy. We are not responsible for their acts or omissions, and their own terms govern their services.
Disclaimers
Waybook is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that Waybook will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, that its calculations are accurate or complete, or that its results will be achieved. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, in which case they apply to the fullest extent permitted.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Waybook will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost savings, lost data or lost opportunity, arising out of or relating to your use of Waybook — including any decision you make in reliance on it.
Our total liability for all claims relating to Waybook will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred United States dollars. [LEGAL REVIEW REQUIRED] — the cap and its carve-outs need to be set deliberately rather than by default.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of Waybook or your breach of these terms.
Termination
You may stop using Waybook at any time, and you may delete your data as described on privacy choices.
We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, or if we need to in order to protect the service or other people using it. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you first and give you a chance to export your data.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Alpha Peak Technologies LLC is organised in Utah.
[LEGAL REVIEW REQUIRED] Whether disputes go to arbitration, whether there is a class-action waiver, whether small claims are carved out, and which courts have jurisdiction are all open decisions. They are not filled in with a default clause here, because a dispute-resolution clause copied from another company is the clause most likely to be unenforceable. See docs/legal/LEGAL_REVIEW_REQUIRED.md.
General
If a term is unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger or sale. These terms, with the documents they reference, are the entire agreement between us.
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will say so on the website and, if you are on the mailing list, by email, before it takes effect.
